How to Choose an Avocado:
The best way to know if an avocado is ready to eat is by grabbing a hold of one and gently squeezing it in your hand it should still be pretty firm but give just a little bit.
Some avocados will turn to a black color as they ripen (see above picture,) while others will keep green(see below.)
How to Properly Open an Avocado:
Take a sharp knife and run it around the long side of the fruit. Open the fruit. One side will have the seed in it. You can try scooping it out with a big spoon. This could be messy. I actually take a knife and with the avocado in one hand I chop the seed with my knife until it sticks into the seed and then turn the knife. It will usually pull the seed right out.
How To Dice an Avocado:
Dicing an avocado is super simple. Once the seed it removed take your knife and slice it lenght wise and then go the other direction you can control how small or how big the dice you want. Next, scoop out the fruit with a big spoon and you will have perfectly diced avocado.

How To Ripen an Avocado:
Ripen them on the counter-(couple days.) Then when you think they are close or done stick them in the refrigerator and this will keep them at that state for about two or three days max. You can also stick them in the fridge to slow the ripening process.
Another way is to stick them in a bag with an apple. Close ‘er up and voila! Happens pretty quick so you need to keep a check on it. (apple trick works with most fruits.)
Want to know something? Well I’m telling you whether you want to know or not. haha. So last year I was dead set in having an avocado tree growing in my backyard.
I wanted to grow it from seed too, like from an avocado that we had eaten or something. I even did a bunch of research trying to find the right species, the right soil needed how to care for them, etc. I was really hyped up about it. I read and read and read. Until I realized that it was a pipe dream. Yep, that’s right I will never have an avocado tree as long as we live here. Sniff Sniff. Totally bummed me out. It’s just too cold here.
Here is a website below that will explain how to grow one from seed. If you click the image it will take you right to the page.
