I was very excited to visit a new restaurant in Kansas City. Cafe Gratitude…
Totally Vegan with a lot of Gluten Free choices as well.
I hear the majority of these cafe(s) are in California-however the owners visited one and decided they had to put one in our wonderful city! Great idea guys!
The restaurant was very well put together, very comforting when you come in. The wait staff were buzzing around the tables all with big smiles in their faces. You could really tell that they enjoyed their job.
We had an excellent server named Sarah. Super sweet. She was nice enough to let me take her picture.
Every day they have a different question of the day….
Question of the day: Who Praises You? Okay, thought that was interesting. Sarah mentioned that she is loves to hear the different responses from people. However, there was just crickets at our table. Sorry Sarah, I think we were just caught off guard.
The fresh juice of the day was I am Succulent. My sister and I both ordered it.
Grapefruit Juice, Celery and a few other things. I’ll be honest with you after I ordered it I realized it had celery in it. Not really a big celery fan. However, to my surprise it was very tasty and vibrant.
My mom enjoyed the I am Rich
-Orange, carrot, lemon, and beat juice
The restaurant itself was very comfortable and inviting. We sat at a table along the wall with a long booth that ran against the wall. They had these super cute pillows perfect for lumbar support. Not to mention this awesome mural that ran throughout the back of the restaurant.
The chalkboard noting where some of the fresh local ingredients were from was also a nice touch. Did you also notice the fun facts about kombucha next to the local produce? (If you missed it look at the picture above with Sarah in it.)
As we were waiting for our food Sarah brought us a dark chocolate macaroon to split. (Bad move Sarah!) This is why we couldn’t resist ordering dessert.
Their hummus special was Sprouted red sunflower seed hummus-totally yummersville. They sent it out with flaxseed crackers that were equally good.
Hey check out this awesome water vessel??-Thingy. Pretty neat, huh? I thought so too. I bet you they have more with different words on them…
Moving right along to the main course my sister decided to skip the entrees and order two starters.
I am Comforted
Roasted garlic potatoes served with our spicy nacho cheese or tamarind & mint chutneys. $8.00
Very good and very filling. A very interesting taste combination definitely would have it again.
I am Vibrant
Seasonal greens (in this case it was kale) sautéed with garlic & pumpkin seeds. $7.50. This dish is right up my ally-a big plate of greens with a great addition of pumpkin seeds-very festive.
It was very good and seemed like a bottomless bowl that I couldn’t reach. This dish is served cold. It was very different than I had imagined in my head but equally as good as I expected. The kelp noodles were really good-this is a great dish to get a variety of different veggies and such on one plate.
My Mom was super hungry and enjoyed two different meals. A tamale and a salad, seemed pretty harmless, but as soon as it came out we knew she couldn’t eat it all so we gladly helped her out. She sent the leftovers with my sister.
I am Trusting
A handmade corn tamale made with organic masa and seasonal vegetables. Served with salsa verde or ricotta cheese, black beans and spicy Mexican coleslaw. $11.50
This was my favorite dish. Which wont come as a surprise as I should have been born a Mexican (considering the amount of Mexican food that I consume.)
I meant to take a picture of the inside of the tamale for you guys but honestly I was too busy eating it. (Even though I didn’t order it my Mom was nice enough to let me eat a lot of it.)
I am Pure
Ginger-tahini kale salad with avocado, sea palm, cucumber, carrots, cilantro, basil and green onions topped with sunflower sprouts & teriyaki almonds. $12.75
This wasn’t exactly what I would consider a traditional salad as it was very creamy. I am assuming that the avocado and stuff was mixed in like a dressing?? Either way it was pretty tasty.
I intentionally left room for this shake my sister was raving about.
OMG!!! It was so delicious. I can still taste it. I am thinking about going there right now just to have one, even though its pretty cold out.
I am Eternally Blessed
Cold pressed espresso blended with out vanilla ice cream (cashew or coconut maybe? I can’t remember.) it was also made with agave and soaked chia seeds!
My Mom brought my Dad a treat to enjoy since he missed out-this pecan macaroon- cant quite remember the name of it.
Well in summary I will have to say that I will be back. They can definitely feed a bunch of hungry people whether they be veggie heads or not-I think most could find something that would please their pallets.
P.S. My son ate there a few weeks back (without me) and was able to have a gluten free meal that he really enjoyed here.
Pssst… Don’t forget to leave a comment. I would love to hear about the new places you’ve been eating at or the old places for that matter. Have you been to Cafe Gratitude? Let me know what you think.
